What is the population of Provence, France?

The whole Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region population is about 4.5 million. I've attached a few sites below that have some additional info on the region.

in the region: Paca: 4 781 000 resident

Given that Provence is a cultural area and not lined by borders, it is very difficult to determine the exact number of inhabitant.

Provence includes the "Bouches du Rhone"; Vaucluse, the South of the Alps of high Provence and the West of the Var.
