Check out Craigslist and select France and then the city you want. I found my apartment rental for Cannes that way. You'll have to do some research but it's a good place to start.

Although I think the combination Cheap; Villa; in May don't work in your favour...

St Tropez is one of the most expensive places in South France!

It's not a place to go to if you are looking for a cheap vacation. The only thing in your favour is that you are visiting off season so you may be able to find some reasonably priced rentals.

If you are working to a very tight budget though you may need to concider other options. There are many other great places for cheaper rentals in South France.
