Has anyone visited Oregon? if so where? |
Has anyone visited Oregon? if so where? Portland is great and the entire state is beautiful and a nice place to visit. Mount Hood just outside of Portland has this amazing lodge that was built by government labor during the depression. This place was built by hand and I mean by hand. All the furniture, carpets, drapes etc. were hand made. the building itself is gorgeous. newel posts in the stair wells are hand carved into various animals. the great room has actual trees as rafters and the main fireplace is so huge that the fire grate is made from the steel rails of the railroad. the views are spectacular and the pool is heated by a thermal vent. Snow skiing here is all year long because the mountain is Glacial. So during the summer you can make some turns in the morning and hang out at the pool all afternoon. Great restaurants. Really worth checking out. Portland, Oregon is the best place EVER!!!!!!!! It has a beautiful view of the ocean, mountains, and even the cities are beautiful. Eh, Portland Isn't Bad. (the city) nope but going there in july I've visited all over Oregon- Portland was great. Being from the SF bay area, I was excited to see how different it was. I've been to Klamath Falls area and treked up to Crater Lake on that trip- beautiful area as well. I've also stopped/spent the night in various smaller towns and they are great as well. One thing that got me was how slow things are in certain areas- I went to a subway for lunch on one trip and it took 30 mins for the two workers to make 3 sandwiches. I didn't mind it just made an observation and people watched. I'm going to Bend,Oregon area this weekend and am excited- I've never been there. Since I live in Oregon, I've been all over. Been to Portland once. its a nice, smaller city. Pretty clean good restaurants. Traffic isnt bad and people are pretty friendly. Overall, i dont have much bad to say about it except that Portland seemed to have a pretty high homeless population and also its a pretty "White" city and I do love a city with lots of diversity. Just to let you know about the homeless people. The 2 reasons Seattle, Portland and Vancouver have a ton of homeless is because of the mildly positive policies toward them, but moreso it's ebcause of the weather. When the weather rarely tops 80 and it rarely dips below 40 (with exception of the recent streak) a homeless person can live on the street fairly safe from the elements. Cannon Beach is a great beach town. Well, I have to say that I have been "visiting" Oregon for the past 50 or so years, as to where?, I will start with Oregon City, then, across the Willamette River to the small town of West Linn, there, I spent quite a few years exploring the area's surrounding Portland. I have traveled East, along the Columbia River Gorge, from Troutdale, Hood River, The Dalles, Biggs, Arlington, Boardman, Umatilla, Hermiston, Pendleton, and Milton-Freewater. Southeast to Joseph, thru the Wallowa's to the western banks of the Snake River. South, through Baker City, a bit more to the East, to Ontario. South to Jordan Valley and, McDermitt. West, to New Pine Creek, North, to Burns, John Day, Ukiah, and Heppner. West, to Condon, ventured zig zag (been there to!)style to Fossil, Mitchell, Prineville, Madras, and Bend. Up and down the Cascades from Mt. Hood to Crater Lake, and Ashland. West thru Medford, Grants Pass and Brookings. North up both the coast, and, I-5 corridor, all the way to Astoria, along the Southern banks of the Columbia, and Portland. South, AND, all points in between. I have pretty much covered the entire state throughout my life. To me, Oregon has pretty much all there could be to experience in all aspects of landscapes. Valley, Mountains, High Lakes and Desert. Ocean, rivers, creeks, and ponds. This is a very special slice of heaven on Earth. Sincerely. I've lived in oregon ever since I was born, after a while it gets boring, on the good side though, you can never predict weather over here. I currently live in Portland, Oregon. Portland doesn't really have anything special about it. I've been all over highway 101- on the Oregon Coast- been to Burns- Sisters- Vale- Jordan valley- any town along I-84 going to Portland- La grande- Pendelton etc- hit me up via e-mail if you need suggestions on where to stay- what to do etc. Yes I have! I live here in Oregon. It's very cool! |
