10 hour layover 11am - 9pm in Portland with 2 little kids, any advice? Any hotels with early check in??

I have checked many hotels so we can relax but most of them won't allow check in until 3pm. Doesnt really seem worth it to pay $100 for only 3pm until 9pm. Does anyone know of a hotel nearby that would allow a day rate? Also we would love to go to IKEA, how would we get there from the airport? Thanks!

IKEA is right down the road from the airport.....maybe 1 or 2 stops on lightrail. And the light rail (MAX) stops right outside the airport....it's very convenient.

no idea

I can't tell you on where to try and stay along the lines of a motel, however, on what to do with the kids...there is some options.

I would highly suggest getting on the Max...It's the mass transit train that now has airport service. The Max goes by IKEA, as well and through out the city. One could just ride it around and see the sights, as well as stop off at a few places such as shopping centers, restraunts, and parks.

Stay at the Holiday Inn Express at 11938 NE Airport Way. Tell them that you'll need early check in when you make your reservations. They're really nice about it. They have a free shuttle that will take you to and from the airport.

IKEA is about 1 mile down the street from the Holiday Inn Express. The hotel shuttle driver would probably take you to IKEA.

Click on this link a list of hotles on Airport way wich is the road that leads your directly to and from the airport...They ma be a bit more but you'll be VERY close and sometimes that is worth the frustration! Plus you have mcdonalds, burgerking, subway up the road. One hotel just off of airport way is "country Inn and Suites" 888-201-1746 heres the link...

http://www.countryinns.com/portlandor_ar... plus they have a resturant and pool there.

I actually helped open the Ikea in portland. The public transportation in the city is Amazing! You can catch a shuttle to and from the airport to two nearby Hotels. From the airport you can also ride the max into the city or directly to Ikea. There really is no need for a car rental or anything. Also the Ikea there lets you drop off your kids I believe 37-54 inches fully potty trained into their one hour free day care that has a ball pit and every thing, you can even get an inexspensive dinner there too. The max has signs to let you know which train to catch to get you where you need. Have fun, I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit!
