Eugene, OR?

Anyone visit or, preferably, live in Eugene? What's it like? Pros? Cons?

We may be moving there soon. We lived on the west coast (Okaland, CA) but I've never been to Oregon. Grew up on the east coast and am a country girl at heart.

Hey There,
I live in Eugene, OR and have now for nearly six years. I love it here. I moved from a small town to Seattle and then to here and I feel like Goldylocks - Eugene is not too big, not too small... it is just right. With the combined population of Eugene and our conjoined city Springfield it is a nice town of about 200k people.
If you are an outdoors person this town is for you. It is around one hour from the coast and one hour from the mountains. Both locations can provide a multitude of activities.
We do have the University of Oregon here which is a really great school, great campus, great atmosphere.
This area offers a variety of residents. We have the hippy croud, the conservative croud, the rednecks, and the professionals. A nice mix of each.
This is Track Town USA and a town of hard core Uof O Duck Fans. The two universities provide a tremendous avenue for community strength... and fun team rivalry.
One minus for living here... if you are not use to the rain we get our fair share... around 57 inches each year. We do however get a fair bit of heat in the summer but summer season is usually end of June through end of September.
We rarely get snow.
One really big thing... Eugene is in the Willamette Valley - in the pollen season we get the worst pollen counts in the nation because not only do we grow grass from Portland to Eugene but it all blows down the valley and sits here - there is no where for it to go as we are surrrounded by hills. Just be prepared to take prescription allergy meds starting around April.
Another great thing though is it is 15 minutes out of town from anywhere. If you want to be away from people you can be in an instant.
Also if you love biking we have over 100 miles of bike trails around Eugene and if you like to hike or river raft we have lots of hiking hills and two rivers that flow through town.
The downtown is fairly sparse currently but they are turning it around.
Eugene is great for local businesses but we also have many national retailers moving here to a couple of boutique malls.
Eugene is major enough that you do not have to travel outside of town to purchase anything you need.
We have a decent public transit system which is underutilized and a great library .
I would recommend living here... it is a great town!

There are alot of hippies in Eugene. I hear it's hard to get a job there. Anyway, it's a small town and it has a university there called the University of Oregon.

uhmm well you'll pretty much want to become an University of Oregon Duck fan, considering Eugene is where it is. not that i would want to reccommend that..I'm an OSU beaver fan.

i hear it's a really good biking town? my dad thinks its ugly.

Corvallis is nicer, in my opinion, and only 40 miles north.
