RV-ing from sacramento, ca + stopping in portland along the way ? |
I'll be rv-ing from sacramento into oregon and would like advice about the trip in terms of what to look out for along the way. Was told that the border area btwn. the two states needs a bit of caution, is there anything else I should know? I'll be riding around btwn. the 16th-23rd of Jan. passing through Oregon en route to seattle...I've never driven a r.v. before but am comfortable w/ it + will be traveling w/ another adult (hopefully) and 2 kids (ages 4 yrs. and 5 mos). Recomendations on places i should see along the way/r.v. parks also welcome. thanx Once you get through the mountains between Oregon and California you'll be just fine. Everything else is just straight up I-5. You'll hit some traffic from Salem through to Portland and it will be raining - but no snow. You'll also hit traffic from Portland through Vancouver, Washington and then you're good for 90 miles. I always stop at Centralia, Washington (it's halfway between Portland & Seattle) and get a bite to eat and take a break. You won't hit traffic again until you get to Olympia but look out for the state police in Olympia they had out tickets like candy. After Olympia traffic is pretty good until you get to Tacoma and it's always a mess because of Ft. Lewis Army base and once you get through that mess you'll hit Seattle traffic which can be a nightmare. A must see, it's a little bit off the route, is Great Cats World Park in Cave Junction, OR. About 110 miles after you cross into Oregon there is the Wildlife Safari in Winston Oregon (just before you would get to Roseburg. I've taken my kids there (many years ago) and they Loved it. You can interact with some of the animals and you can see Lions in their natural habitat (among many other animals). This is definitely a must see. |
