Renting in Portland...?

I would like to move to Portland Oregon. I have bad credit. I will have a job making about $15/hr and I am looking to spend no more than $700 on rent. How hard will it be to to find a rental that will accept me? Where I live now it is very hard to find a rental if your credit is not excellent.

Okay..maybe I was not clear as to what my question is. I know rentals are available in my price range. My question is this:

Will I have a hard time finding someone who will rent to me since I have bad credit?

Depends. If you have good references, sometimes the landlords are willing to wave the credit check. My first landlords did that since my boyfriend and I were both 20 at the time and had no credit to our names. His step-mother told them in person that we were good, responsible people.
It never hurts to ask them. The worst that happens in that they say no and nothing will be lost.

I don't know about the credit situation, but you can live in the trendy section of town, the Pearl, for $600

Rent is cheep, but houses are expensive to own.

I know lots of people who have found great places to rent for $700 or less.

check out

www.portland.craigslist.com

under rentals. Lots of options there.

It might take you longer to find a place with no credit check, but i think in general, Portland has a pretty laid back real estate market. You might want to get on a site like Trulia.com and post a question in the Trulia Voices section, there are a lot of local landlords on their.

Best to look on craigslist as one poster mentioned, you can look at oregonlive.com or the news paper the oregonian.com...thise places are good for trying to land a job as well. Best of luck to you. It's beautiful city but since there are SO MANY people moving here the prices are at a constant rise......Good luck duder.

rent is kinda reasonable but with bad credit it is going to be hard to find someone who DOES NOT do a credit check
