What are your opinions on Portland and/or Portland State University?

I've never been to Portland, but I was recently accepted to Portland State University. I'd really appreciate any opinions you have of either. Thanks!

Portland is a great city. Laid back, liberal, lots of bikes, great food...etc. PSU is a decent university. Not great, but decent. Some departments, like Sociology, Urban Planning, and a few others excel. The rest are okay. It's a school in a more urban setting with a pretty small campus compared to some other universities. The 'park blocks' run through PSU so there is a large pedestrian mall behind some of the main buildings. The university is spread between 15-20 blocks or so, I think. Some of the professors are great and some not so much. It really depends on your major. Many people who go to PSU are 'place bound' students. That is they live in Portland and don't want to leave and go to PSU. That's why I got my masters degree there. I was a place bound student. I found my undergraduate degree at a larger, Midwest, state university to be much more challenging, but I don't regret for a second going to PSU for my masters. Portland is a great place to be.

Portland is a very relaxed city. It has a slight urban feel, but unlike any other lareg city, it is very comfortable.

There is a homeless problem, and the citizen tend to be much too liberal and polite to do anythnig about it. However it's still an extremely safe city.

Portland State sits right on the edge of downtown and the untrained eye cannot tell that a university is even there. Other than that it isn't a bad school. It does not have that college feel that most schools have, as it is a commuter school. It is heavily patroned by people who work downtown adn are shooting for a second degree.

You'll like the small city that Portland has to offer, it's a great place and only about 1-2 hours from the mountains, if you like skiing, or camping and about 2 hours from the beach.

Portland State University is a good school, parking is a pain since it's in the middle of down town but the campus has the largest student body in all of Oregon. PSU has a great business program as well as a computer programs. The university has changed so much that they are buying out old buildings for more classes.
I liked my time at PSU while I was studying there, I have no regrets about attending the local city school. I met alot of people and the experience was great. The thing that PSU had that other colleges didn't have was access to down town all the time. So if you don't feel like eatting at PSU, just walk or take the bus downtown (which is like 15 min walk) and eat and shop down town.

My suggestion would be to come up to PSU and walk around the campus, see how it's close to downtown.
