Doubletree Hotel in Portland Oregon?

I will be making a trip to Portland in January and am staying at the Doubletree on Lloyd St. Across from the Lloyd Center. Is this a good area and what is it close too, and how hard might it be to get to the other side of Portland. I was curious if the Max is a good way to get around the city. Thanks for your help.

The Doubletree is right across the street from Lloyd Center and is 1-2 blocks from MAX light rail which you can take into downtown for free. It's not a bad area but if I could find a hotel downtown for the same price, I'd stay there instead. Just more to do and that area around the MAX can be dicey at night.

The Lloyd district is within fareless square, so MAX trips to downtown are free. The above answer is correct--staying downtown is the same price if not cheaper, although parking downtown may cost you up to $30 per night.

I have stayed at this hotel several times (good deals on Hotwire) and it is in a pretty good location. IIRC, they charge $18 to park, and it's cheaper on certain nights. I usually drop off my wife and luggage and park out on the street. I have full coverage on my car, though.

The neighborhood is so-so. I don't feel scared, but the MAX line has it's fair share of crazy people on and around it, especially at night.

It is within walking distance of Lloyd Center and the Lloyd Cinemas and I usually only take the Max into downtown. Normally, we go to bars downtown or sometimes pay the fee and change over to the street car and go up to the NW Burnside area. I have stayed at this hotel and gone to the Zoo, also.

Riding the MAX kind of limits where you can go, but you can get to Gresham (east) and to Beaverton (west) on it. However, it takes a lot longer than driving and you can't really carry a lot of stuff around if you are shopping.

I like the MAX for being downtown, but not so much trying to get to the suburbs or different parts of town. You also miss out on the fun parts of town like the Hawthorne and Belmont districts.
