Trains from Warsaw to Poznan take about 3 hours and cost about $32 each way.
There are frequent trains, at least every hour, so you can do it in a day trip, going in the morning and returning in the late afternoon or evening.

You can definitelly have a day trip to Poznan! it is best to take a train you can go for a fast or intercity train. You can check it out at www.pkp.pl . The web is in Polish but if you follow my instruction you should do fine :-) So... you need to type in Warszawa Cenralna in the box next to "z", then Poznan Glowny in the 'Do" box then choose the date and the time end click enter, you can then switch the language to English :) The trip is up to 3hr 30min or so...Good luck!!
