Is there passport control in Poland for EU citizens after Schengen?

Last time I went to Poland in October it took a long time to get through passport control after arrivals, but my friend tells me now Poland is in Schengen this isn't there anymore. Is this true?

Thanks - yes I am travelling from the UK. I thought it would not matter though as I would be going into Poland rather than into the UK and I am still an EU citizen.

Depends where you're travelling from. Remember that the UK is not part of the Schengen Agreement (so a passport is needed), so despite the fact that Poland joined Schengen in May 2004, you would still need a passport to travel from the UK. There's no reason why you had to wait for so long to get through passport control though, maybe you were just unlucky.

If you come from UK or Ireland, than you still have to pass the passport control, since those two countries aren't members of Schengen area.
Until the end of march all passengers (even those EU citizens, who come from Schengen member country), who fly into one of the new Schengen members, must pass the passport control, since it will be terminated with the new, summer schedule. On the airports, I mean.

Being an EU citizen doesn't matter - as to determine that they have to look at your passport.

The internal borders within Schengen are gone, but as Ireland and the UK wish to control their citizen's movements and have not joined Schengen, when entering Poland from abroad you will be checked. Once in Poland, you can travel as far as Portugal without being checked again.

By next year, the UK gov will have brought in further controls. You will have to give the government 24 hours notice of your intention to leave the country and suppy 54 pieces of personal information, including everything from your address to your membership of trade unions. Its called API

Let's not forget that we are still subject to immigration/passport control. Due to Schengen requirements - You must keep your passport/id card with you at all times, they can stop your car, and check your luggage even 50km behind border.
