How safe is it in Playa del Carmen??

How safe is it in Playa del Carmen??

For the most part, it is as safe as your average American middle-sized city. Of course, you'll be harassed to spend your money in the shops as you walk the downtown area, however the vendors value the commericalism to the degree that they go out of their way to make you feel safe. As with anywhere, simple logic should keep you out of harm's way.

Always remember to avoid dark alleys, following people off the beaten path, or biting on a "too good to be true" offer.

Playa del Carmen is pretty safe. I'm vacationing here right now and feel safe enough to walk alone and it is 9:09 p.m. Would I walk alone at this time in L.A. or Las Vegas...maybe NOT! Report It

So many people in the U.S. think that MEXICO is this dangerous place (such as the Middle East is, but IT IS NOT! I always feel safer here in Mexico than I do back home in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. I have a bigger chance of getting robbed, car-jack'd or shot in these U.S. Cities than in Mexico. Report It

Very safe to go there to get a tan and get drunk, just not too drunk so the locals or the turists can take advantage of you.

Have fun.....oh check the weather for hurricanes...

I was in Playa Del Carmen a few yrs ago and it was safe. Great time. The beach area near the Allegro Resort is groovy. Have fun and be sure to see the Mayan pyramids while your there, take a camera, undies and brush your teeth, oh, deoderant also, oh, Hurricane season is now till October, so be advised we missed hurricane Hugo by One day while there.

Other than that, have fun and Do Not act like a bunghole as the Police are Nice, tolerant but tired of inconsiderates.

Very safe.
Enjoy, it is great. Oh, if you think the taxi drivers are driving too fast, tell them to slow down. This is considered rude, but there are many accidents involving cabs.

Was there a couple of weeks ago. Felt safe, but overwhelmed with guys trying to sell us stuff. Saw numerous police standing on the corners holding Uzi's during the day. Not sure how it would be at night.
