Which is better Iberostar Del Mar or Tucan ?

We are in our mid twenties/ early thirties and going on our honeymoon in May. We enjoy snorkeling, the ocean, beach, nightlife, and good food.

Has anyone stayed at either one of these hotels and which one would your recommend?

The Del Mar is very big and spread out, so it really depends on what all you plan on doing. You guys will have a long walk either to eat, or to the pool, or to the beach. However - if you can get a room somewhere in the middle( of the Del Mar ), it probably won't be too bad. Iberostar Tucan - Iberostar Quetzal would be that much less walking for her and they don't have a shuttle.

The reason the Del Mar seems so large is that it is in a complex of other Iberostars. I don't think the Tucan would make that much difference for her as there is quite a bit of walking there too. The Del Mar/Pariaso Beach is actually 2 hotels with the Del Mar on one side and the Pariaso Beach on the other. The other Iberostars the Lindo and Maya are next door again.

The Tucan & Quetzal are the same resort, like the Del Mar & Beach. Which side you get depends on what tour operator you book through, but the rooms are the same, and the two sides share all the facilities. You will have exactly the same experience and options at either.

The Tucan/Quetzal offers the same great service and quality amenities you enjoyed at the Del Mar. Some differences from the Del Mar:
- 5 minutes from Playa del Carmen, not 25 minutes, so easier to spend time in town;
- Much smaller resort-- less walking, but fewer bars and restaurants;
- Beautiful pool, but not as large and fancy as the Del Mar's;
- Less manicured, more jungle-y grounds with more wildlife;
- Beach even prettier;
- More people from other resorts walking along the beach;
- You can go anywhere on the property, since there is no adjoining higher-price property like at the Paraiso complex.

I would recommend the Tucan over the Del Mar for people with either young kids or older people. Del Mar is just TOO big. Beach was also nicer at the Tucan. I also preferred being closer to town but that is just my preference.

The only drawback is that the towel game of reserving chairs and palapas is practiced as a high art form at the Iberostar Tucan - Iberostar Quetzal.

Both resorts are excellent quality. I think you will be happy once you get there.

I stayed at the DelMar last Feb. It is a beautiful place. The food is great, the beach is beautiful. There is a snorkeling boat on the premises that have many different tours. You also get to use the Beach part of the resort (It's another hotel) which gives you more restaurants and bars. The service was also great.The pool area is huge and they have a swim-up bar and a waterfall. I didn't find anything wrong with this place. It was paradise!!

Congradulations to you both!
Last April I went to the Tucan with my parents. It is adjoined with the quetzal resort. IT WAS AMAZING!! We loved iberostar tucan! The hotel itself is beautiful, there are ponds surrounding the buffet and walking areas, five restaruants, and several bars and pools. We tried the seafood a la carte dining restaruant but found that the buffet consisted of the best of each restaruant and more! Also, the beach is beautiful and the water is 5 different shades of blue, there is ice cream and payella on the beach which is amazing! Also, in the middle of the hotel is beautiful wildlife, many trees and animals. We saw monkeys, lizards, peacocks, and even swans. it is truly amazing. the resort is all inclusive so you don't have to pay for anything and, everynight there is a different show at ten o clock right in the hotel and after you can go to the night club which is opened untill 3 in the morning! my mom and i enjoyed the water arobics every morning at ten. there are many sports you can play and they have fun hotel games. i still remeber the hotel's version of "my girl" and the dance to a spanish song, the two would always play after every event. Be sure when you go (to which hotel you choose) to bring a hat and the strongest sunblock avaliable because the sun is really strong. I have medium skin and looked like i was african (which was cool except for my face was peeling terribly when i returned to school)! I hope you two have lots of fun and i hope i was of any help. if you need information you can log on to iberostar's web site
