Any Cheap and safe hotels in Playa Del Carmen?

I'm looking for hotels under $40 / night in playa del carmen that are safe.
Anyone stayed in one? what was it like?

There are tons of little hotels in the area around fifth street. The beach is just one block away, and the area is safe. I have never felt threatened in town. I have been to this area several times, but I always stay at one of the big resorts. They are pretty reasonable on funjet.com. They even have hotel only packages if you are interested. If you aren't going at a peak time, I would suggest just showing up down there and getting a room along fifth street. You sound pretty adventurous to me! If you don't want to do that, look up tripadvisor.com. Any hotel that exists down there will be listed along with a review. And they also show an average price next to the review. Hope this helps!

Playa del Carmen is very new invested area, so every hotel is safe there, the government have also invest to have turist safe and confortable.

I think this is a good option for your budget, but if you research at the link here, you may find something that fits your exact needs

Forget it.

The days of forty dollar a nights stays in Playa del Carmen are long over. All hotels along the Riviera Maya (except in and around Cancun) are all inclusive. Be prepared to spend around 200.00/night. You can, however, find travel deals on the net that would cut the price somewhat.

All hotels on the beach are safe in Playa del Carmen. They almost all are all inclusive. You can find great airfare/hotel pkg. deals online on websites like travelzoo.com, vacationexpress.com, funjet.com, etc. A year ago this week I was in Playa del Carmen for 4 nights and received airfare, transfers, all inclusive resort, and taxes for about $500.

As for budget hotels... don't expect to stay on the beach. Prices change frequently b/c the area is in constant transition. Check out places like Posada Yumil-Kin, Posada Lily, Hotel mar caribe, or Hotel Da Gabi. Of course the beach is easily accesible from these places.

I normally stay clear of over-touristy places when i travel to Mexico, but the beach is GORGEOUS in this region of Mexico. You'll love it! And all the Mayan ruins! Buen viaje!
