Arranging transportation from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen?

I need advice on arranging transportation from the airport in Cancun to the Riu Tequila in Playa Del Carmen. I thought it would be included in my vaction package. Also, any other travel tips fro Playa Del Carmen would be greatly appreciated. I am taking my daughter for her 21st birthday in December.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get to the airport without a transfer already scheduled. There are about a hundred guys ready to help you get a taxi to the hotel, and they are all scamming you for something. Even if you tell them you already have transfers they still try to convince you that you are in the right place.

You should call and add it to your itinerary if it is not included. That way which ever travel carrier you are with will have a representative at the airport waiting for you. Make sure that the person you talk to once you are there is outfitted in that companies uniform.

I always travel with funjet and their guys are easy to spot because they have turquoise shirts, white ties, and white pants.

You could arrange for a rental car but be sure to reserve it before you get there so that it is already lined up. I know this sounds paraniod, and I am not in general. But this is one area you need to be prepared for.

Rent a car - or check with the hotel, there may be a shuttle - cabs are super expensive

It is either a long taxi ride or finish the flight to Cozumel then hop the ferry back to Playa del Carmen. It has gotten pretty commercial so there may now be one of those larger shuttle services. See if your hotel has a service although it is over an hour so there is probably a charge.

Travel tips? Playa del Carmen is a cool site, rather small that keeps its "Mexican style", with lots of good restaurants and great beaches. Also, as its the core of the Mayan Riviera, you can visit many places during your vacations: go to Cancun for great nightlife and cosmopolite city; you can visit the archeological sites of Tulum and Coba; the islands Cozumel and Isla Mujeres for water activities.
