How would you rate the area of 48th st and southern in Phoenix?

I want to buy a house in that area but Ive never lived around there.

It's OK. But you won't really want to travel anywhere but East towards Tempe. The whole Baseline Road corridor has changed from what it use to be but you have a lot of shady neighborhoods with gangs north of Baseline, especially around 24th. St. and Broadway. The Bullets have to land somewhere, and you'll be close. I'm not saying that because I've heard or drove through there once. I've lived in South Phoenix and I still know people down there. I was glad to get out.

I'm not too sure how that area is. I would suggest going south a few miles to Chandler and 48th. There is a middle class neighborhood there I believe. Avoid between Ray and Elliot on 48th because there are many retirement neighborhoods. There is one on Warner & 48th though that is a slight step down from the middle class neighborhood on Chandler & 48th. It has one story houses and split level houses. Go to this website to check out the value of homes:

48th and southern 0/10. schools, entertainment and traffic, crime is horrible.. but go 5 miles south to 48th street and chandler blvd or Ray road or warner (over the hills.) 10/10 MUCH BETER nearly no crime excellent schools and entertainmment

It is a real bad area.

it is kinda bad i would go to a different area like awatukee

It is not one of the best areas in town but not one of the worst either. I used to live right in that neighborhood. I heard that it was considered one of the bad areas and some pizza places would not deliver to us even. But I personally never had a problem there and I walked everywhere I went. The only issue I had was lots of dogs running loose. Also the high school for the area is Tempe High, which apparently has gone way downhill in the last few years, but if you can drive your kids to school, you can go a few miles South and enroll in the Kyrene schools through open enrollment.

I used to live on 48th st and Baseline......real close to Arizona Mills......a really nice big mall.

they do have new housing int hat area.

It used to be a bad area....but it is now cleaning up and getting better...

just like downtown Phx

Unless you are moving to Ahwatukee, stay out of south Phoenix. That area is nothing but crime, gangs, drugs, and dirt.

South of Elliot is okay (Southern is 2 miles north of Elliot).

It has a bad reputation for gangs. But there are parts that are being cleaned up. Along with some new housing development in the area. I used to work in that area, and really never had any problems. Of course check it out yourself at different times of the day, and different days of the week to get a feel for yourself.

I'd pick a different area of town to live
