Is Arizona nice this time of year ?

Is it hot or cold and what fun things can one do there? How hot does it get , how cold does it get ? Are there big trees? What kinds of insects and things live there?

Does it snow there?

I am from Michigan.

Yes! I mean, I was there in March not February but close enough I guess. Their summers are notoriously too hot but this time of year it is so beautiful and perfect there- warm but not too warm. An Arizona March feels like a summer would in a temperate state like Michigan...except less humid! If you like hiking and scenery then AZ is a good place to go. In the North you have the Flagstaff-Oak Creek Canyon area which has mountains and looks a bit like Colorado, seeing as it is closer to the border. I remember seeing lizards on the cliffs there but I couldn't identify what kind they were because they were so camouflaged. Then if you go a bit further south (between Flagstaff and Phoenix) you have the Red Rock/Cottonwood/Sedona area. You have lots of pretty red cliffs and cool landforms in this area and the sunsets are beautiful. In the middle part of the state you have Phoenix, and while the central part of Phoenix is too urban and boring, the surrounding areas of it are beautiful- you have saguaro cactus and palm trees everywhere and hummingbirds are always at people's feeders. If you go to the Phoenix area there's a lot of cool places you can hike at like South Mountain or Camelback Mountain. Then if you go to the southern part of the state near Tuscon, check out Sabino Canyon. When I was there I had round-tailed ground squirrels (they look like little prairie dogs) walk right around my feet and I also saw a roadrunner run around me and the brightest cardinals I've ever seen. In this area you can also take a wildlife drive in Saguaro National Monument, there's a ton of different kinds of cactus here and I remember seeing quails cross the road in front of us and cactus wrens flying around. Also, if you want a caving tour then go to Colossal Cave.

OK so basically in northern AZ you have the snow-capped mountains, canyons, rivers, and lots of pine trees and the central and southern parts are covered by the Sonora Desert which has an assortment of beautiful cactus and flowers. March is a good time to see the cactus in bloom because when I was there it was like seas of cacti and flowers. Coatis, ringtails, javelinas (a kind of wild pig), and tortoises all live in AZ but I never saw any of those there (unless you count the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum zoo), but I did see lots of different species of cool birds, squirrels, and lizards. As far as insects go...I remember seeing a bright red grasshopper.

Sorry if my info is spotty and disorganized but everything I wrote is based on memory of the one time I went there- when I was 8 in March 1995. But I definitely plan to go back someday- just haven't had the chance yet. The Sonoran Desert is very unique and you'll never find a place quite like it.

You can look at all sorts of Arizona animals right here:

If you mean, nice and warm .. for Southern Arizona . .The Best!

it's hot at this time of year
theres nothing to do just go
to a suns game

Arizona has two very distinct parts... northern AZ (Flagstaff) does get snow, it's a much higher elevation. so up there it's pine forests, all things mountain.

Southern AZ only gets winter rains, winter floods, and the occasional sandstorm. I always thought Feb-Mar were the two best months of weather we had when I lived in Phoenix.
Total desert with nothing green unless you irrigate it! Cactus for decoration, and palm trees. Like two different planets.

yeah its pretty hot!! I was there for christmas one year and went to mueseums and state parks and stuff!! It was fun! There are not big trees except palm trees and there are lots of cacti. All the lakes and rivers and stuff are all dryed out and stuff. I think there are some snakes, but I am not sure!!

It rarely snows in AZ. It also depends on where you are in AZ, but it is beautiful now. It's not really cold in the winter, but in the summer it can get well over 100 degree. There are NOT a lot of trees, it has a very beige landscape. The sky is bright and blue, too. Lots of nice, big, fluffy white clouds. Scorpions live there. Those are scary and like to live in shoes and in your towels. You would need to spray to keep those away. Poisonous snakes live out there like rattlesnakes. These things shouldn't be a problem if you have pest control and live in a built-up area.

I live in Arizona!!! It was super beautiful here yesterday!!! It was 70 degrees!!!

Arizona's topography and weather varies through out the state.

You can have snow near Flagstaff this time of year, and nearly 80 degree weather towards the south of the state.

Same types of trees, mostly evergreens and decidous up north, and pines, mesquites and other hardy desert shrubs down south. Insects typical of any desert environment.

Why don't you go visit or rent a travel video.

Today in the Phoenix area it is going to be 75. Up north in the 40's for the high. Yes it snows in the northern part of Arizona and down south around Tucson area. We have three ski resorts in Arizona.

Here in the western burbs of Phoenix today it was sunny and 77. =)

Depending on where you live you can see all that stuff.

Hot - about 120 degrees in the summer......but no HUMIDITY

Cold - about 40 degrees in the winter......no humidity

Fun things - festivals, carnivals, mudd boggin, quading, hiking, biking, movies, shopping, boating, skydiving, hot air balloons, music concerts, comedy shows...endless possibilities

yes we have big trees....in Northern Arizona, San Fransico Peak and Southern Arizona in the Chirichua Mountains.

YES it snows in Northern Arizona, Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona areas.

Insects : basic insects, roaches, lady bugs, butterflys, spiders, ants, scorpians, milipedes, centipedes, wolf spiders, crickets.

Others: rattlesnakes, gila monsters, lizards, jack rabbits, quails, desert turtles, deer, elk, bobcats, bats, bears, squirrals, skunks and many more.

Answers to your questions will vary depending on what area of Arizona. Some places, like Flagstaff, Payson, and Prescott get snow and have big pine and evergreen trees like you have in Michigan. Other places are desert, get no snow, and have few trees other than palm trees and cacti.

Phoenix:
It's 75 degrees and sunny right now
It does not snow
There are trees but not what you are used to in Michigan
It gets into the 30s at night
All kinds of insects live here including scorpions

YUP its nice today feb 11 was about 70 degrees trees are all green my lawn is looking good its thong and speedo weather!!!!

Okay today will be about 70ish,its been around 40 early morning. We are just outside Phoenix on your way to Payson,Prescott. The mountains, lakes.

Where we are its glorious.Very beautiful,surrounded by mountains,not your regular mountains,but these rugged,green, purple,grey,blue hues of terrain.In redwood looking earth,beautiful sunrises,sunsets.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Palms trees ,orange trees, cactus, a different desert than you would imagine. Not real sandy in this area.
Insects are not bad once you adapt.I 've lived in Montana,Washington,California & a few other states..
There's gona be insects.

Summer can be a little hot. However you just pick your times to go places according to your heat level.A lot like the cold, only air conditioned instead of heaters. The suntanning is always a plus.

You can find fun where ever you go.What you do is what you want to do because we offer great weather to do it in.We have lots of water works for swimming.Inside sports.Great arenas for football, basketball which are played year round.
Paintball is another sport endured by we women. Some love it too.

We are 2 hours from snow sking.20 minutes from the lake for water sking. If you like four wheeling,or camping theres that.Concerts outdoors and in.Lots of parks, the unbeliveable Grande Canyon.
The Grande Canyon has a train that takes you back into the mountains where the bald eagles live, you can ride n dine, watch the wild life.A hotel and a long hike down into it.
Tree's are mainly in the more mountainous areas,
We have trees just different than you have in other states. Some are good size, but I love the redwoods so to me theyre smaller.
Snow capped mountains last only a few days.We have had a queer snow occasionally. It will usually be gone before you blink.

I suppose if I'm to be honest, you should know in the outside areas we have rattlesnakes, havalina, triancalas, lots of rabbits, scorpions
Oh did I mention Great shopping.
Hope this helped with some insight.

Well, I love it but so do all the other people around here. The Phoenix area is getting huge, I think the 4 largest city in US! Traffic is getting bad too. But the weather, you just can't beat this time of year. You can be at the beach in 5 hours and the mountains in 2 hours so you have the best of both worlds. Doesn't snow in the valley. There is plenty of vegetation, too much actually and its starting to make allergy suffers worse. We do have scorpions we have had four in our house but I have lived here for 10 years. (Of course they were all in one year! Scared me to death!)

wow some people go overboard... it is not always 120 degrees, in fact very rarely. it usually gets up to about 110 for a few weeks, but most of the summer is 95 to 105. in the south it gets around 40 or so in winter on average. up north it is much cooler in winter at about 20 or so. it really depends on where exactly you are. 75% of the year is sunny and amazing. it can get a little cool for a few weeks in winter, and yes it will be hot for a couple months in summer, but you really do get used to it after a few summers here.

up north they get snow, and sometimes we get in on the peaks of valley mountains. we get rare rains during the winter and monsoon season in late summer/early fall. we have mainly desert trees and palm trees, but only mainly because it is costly for the upkeep and watering of large trees and things that require a lot of water, since rain is rare. most people don't have grass, but it's not because it can't grow, just because it needs to be watered so most people don't bother. it is not a barren wasteland like people make it out to be. most places just choose to have natural flora because it is easy. cacti and palo verde trees and dry shrubs you can just let grow and don't have to deal with them.

all the lake and rivers are NOT dried up, i don't know where people get that idea. we go tubing on the salt river every summer, and we have tons of lakes and rivers all over the state. we have tons of forest land covereing much of the northern part of the state where they do have tons of big trees; pine, aspen, and all that.

natural wildlife varies also by region. desert animals include foxes, coyotes, javelina, bobcats, bats, mountain lions, lots of small animals like prairie dogs and such, snakes, lizards, lots of other reptiles. we have lots of bird types like quail woodpecker and larger birds...owls, hawks, eagles, etc. we also have bears and deer and your standard forest wildlife up north in the forests. we have some insects such as scorpions (not as common as some people make them out to be), spiders, and ants and such. we get cicadas in the summer and sometime white flies depending on the year. we really don't have that many flying insects like some other humid places do. people get scared of desert animals, but really there is nothing to be afraid of. i've seen coyotes around my house, but they are more afraid of you than you are of them. there are not mountain lions running down out of the hills and attacking people. it doesn't happen like that.

PS. my boyfriend is from traverse city and he loves it here.

This is the best time of year (however it is cool for us and warm to someone from MI) from Oct -April.... from May to late sept. You will roast. There is all kinds of trees and plants, just not as thick and lush as you are used to. There is all sorts of bugs and things... thus the reason pest control is a thriving business. But you get used to it and in the city there is not as many as there is in the rural areas. There is more to do in Az than in most places because of good weather.
