Phoenix hotels near the convention centre?

I want to book on hotwire.com; should i be choosing downtown phoenix or central phoenix?

Downtown.

The Hyatt is almost directly across from the centre in downtown Phoenix, may be a little more expensive though. There is the historic Hotel San Carlos, have heard mixed reviews though.
