Fun family things in Phoenix, AZ?

We are going on a family trip to Phoenix in March. My husband is taking the 2 older kids to a Dodger baseball game, but I don't want to take the little ones. What are some things that I can do with a 4 & 2 year old? Also, it will be my son's 7th birthday that day...where is a great place to take him for dinner? We are going to the grand canyon & tombstone following Phoenix...so, some indoor activities in Phoenix would be nice...but I am open to all ideas. (10 pts. to the most informative & creative) Thanks!

Check out 'gocitykids.com' in Phoenix area for a listing of daily activities going on, festivals etc. That is a great resource. Off hand, ideas for that age group are:

Arizona Museum for Youth in Mesa - hands on

Mesa Southwest Museum across of the one above, if they like dinosaurs

Imagination Avenue at 32nd St & Shea in North Phoenix, great indoor play village

Phoenix Zoo and/or World Wildlife Zoo would be good at that time of year. For 2 & 4, Phoenix Zoo is probably better.

Possibly Makutu's Island at Priest & Ray in Tempe/Chandler area. Awesome huge indoor play area, they do have a few smaller areas that would work for the younger one, the older would go hog wild :-)

Jeepers at Alma School & Guadalupe in Mesa. Indoor amusement park with a large climbing gym, great for both ages.

As for dinner, they should get a kick out of Rainforest Cafe inside the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe.

If you are going to the Grand Canyon, stop through Williams and check out the trains, then take the kids to the Deer Farm just outside Williams. It is great. There is also Flintstone Bedrock Village in Valle on the way to the Grand Canyon. You will not be so impressed but the kids will go ga-ga.

I would recommend all of the activities above for the older kids too. The only one they could not do is Imagination Avenue and the smaller areas of the Museum. The AZ Science Center in downtown Phoenix is awesome as well, not too sure how much applies to the really little one but the rest will defintely love it.

Here's three places to think about. The Arizona Science Center has this very cool dinosaur exhibit going on right now. It's fun for the kids cause they have a lot of interactive stuff throughout the place. There's a lot of science stuff to learn there and they make it fun for kids. Jeepers(Jungle Jim's) is like Chuckie Cheese on steroids. It's a mini indoor amusement park. Fidlesticks is like a miniature golf place with games and food.

If you guys want to hang out at a park, head over to
Kiwanis Park.
6005 S All America Way
Tempe, AZ 85281

It's close to the Angels Stadium where the Dodgers are playing.

Phoenix has a great zoo. It's mostly outdoors, unlike zoos in Chicago or NYC that might have many of the animals housed indoors.

Also the Arizona Science Center is a fun place.

Both are relatively inexpensive.

The Phoenix Zoo is great for the young one. Jungle Jim's Playland is great for the party or dinner.

The AZ Science Ceter is un, Golfland, Fiddlesticks! All fun places! Oh and Amazing Jakes!

Here is a great web site, has some great ideas for you and you're family.
