Glendale, AZ?

Anybody live in or been to Glendale, AZ? I just found out I might be moving there for my husbands job. I'm not quite sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing yet, so what do all of you who have been there before think?

It will be great for you. It is a fast growing city.

scottsdales nicer i think. i live in mesa, its all one big city. the weather is almost always nice, today was 70. when we get rain its really big news.the summers are just unbearable and very long, overall the whole phoenix area is pretty nice and a short drive up north for cooler weather and snow in winter.there is alot of crime but as there is with any big city.hope that helps.

If you don't mind being in an area where nearly nobody speaks English it is an okay place. The population of Glendale,AZ is roughly 70% Hispanic, Spanish speaking only. Very Very hot in the summer as well.

nice city youll like it there

the whole Phoenix area is wonderful. you can live where ever you want and although the area is extremly large and many miles from one side of town to the other. the highways and roads are laid out in a manner that make commuting a breeze. Yes it's hot here but it is a dry heat and we do use AC. Plus you are within a day trips distance to some great National Parks like, Grand Canyon, sunset crater, Glen Canyon RA, Petrified Forest, and a whole host of other National monuments, historic sites and some exelent state and county parks. Your oppertunities here are endless

You might want to check "land subsidience" if you plan to buy. I'm in the process of doing my own investigation for land problems.

i grew up in glendale and now live in Chandler (about 30 mins east of glendale).

overall the city is older and you might want to consider living in a neighboring city. the crime rate can be pretty risky in some areas. my mom owns a house in dreaming summit which is located in litchfield park not too far from glendale. it's a nice housing development with a ton of options for housing.

the city of surprise is fast growing and has alot of newer house and shops. if your husband doesn't mind a little bit of a commute this would be the best place to check out.

the coyotes hockey arena and cardinals football stadium are both in glendale and when we host big events (games, concerts, etc) traffic can get a little crazy.

the state though is awesome-there are a ton of hiking trails, lakes, national parks to visit. cooler temps are just a few hours away in the north country where you can ski in the winter and enjoy nice cool hikes along creeks in sedona during spring. i've lived here for 15+ years and i love it. our summers are brutal but you learn to stay indoors.

good luck with your move. here are some links to help you out

Just like any other town, you have good and not so good parts of town. I really like the area. People say move to Scottsdale, but Scottsdale has their problems also. There are very many nice areas. It depends on where your husband's place of employment is located. If in Glendale, try to stay on the west side of Phoenix, Northwest or Southwest or North Central Phoenix. Go to azcentral.com that will help you out some more. Best of luck to you and your husband.
Visit CCV if looking for a church. Okay, so that was a little plug.

Make sure you live in North Glendale, the Southern part of Glendale is not all that great. The Arrowhead Ranch Community is really nice. I live in Peoria which is right next to Glendale, and it's a great place to live. There's a lot of restaurants and shops close by, and it's easy to hop on the 101 Freeway and head in any direction. Spring training at the Peoria Sports complex isn't to far away. The Glendale sports complex where the Super Bowl is going to be this weekend is just minutes away to.

Glendale is a really nice place to live!

Glendale itself varies from older blighted patches, typical track homes (alot in the metro PHX area) to million dollar homes. In fact there are a significant amount of millionaires living in Glendale. There is an attempt to compete with Scottsdale, AZ (another Phoenix suburb) so the city itself is being revamped. As the other writer said, Arrowhead offers some nice upscale homes. Check out the below link from Money Magazine. It was named one of the best places to live two years running.

the city itself is also hosting this years Super Bowl so alot of attention is on it.
