I am interested in finding out as much about the city of Perth as possible. What is the climate, is it a busy city, very crowded, is there a high crime rate, what is the quality of the public schools, hospitals, etc?? Mmmmk
climate - December to February is Summer...but it is usually warm from Spetember and always hot on xmas day. Whether is nice from January til April usually with high temps...but less wind than december, so great for boating or going to the beaches. Winter is june july august, sometimes it can be a bit rainy, but last year for example there wasnt much rain and wasnt that cold.
Sports - AFL is quite big. Most popular team is West Coast Eagles, followed by the Fremantle Dockers. Cricket i big in the summer too. Rugby, not as popular and soccer not popular, unless Australisa gets in the World Cup - then we all love soccer. =]
Public schools - I dont go to one, but Ive heard good things. Rossmoyne Senior high is good Ive heard.
Not too crowded. Property is VERY expensive.
crime rate is quite low. Road toll is quite high. public hospitals...have heard some bad stuff, but i guess they dont ell you about the good stuff. So quite good.
Overall its a good place to live. Which one?the one in Scotland or Australia. There is a vast difference in the climate for a start! i'm on the same boat mate, thinking about moving out there this year for a bit... i have family there who absolutely love it and say the weather is great, sadly thats all i know. hope you get some good answers here! get "Australia and New Zealand magazine from WH Smith or Tescos, it's GREAT! Back issues have articles on Perth and every issue at the back has info on the main cities in Australia! I love it! Perth is the most isolated capital city in the world. We are closer to Indonesia than we are to the other cities in Australia.
The weather is usually sunny as we have the most days of sunshine out of all the cities. Summer can get quite hot, last year Boxing day was 44C. The winters can get cold but not too unpleasant, at night it can drop below 0C. The biggest problem with Perth is the lack of rain and water is very precious. If you are from the UK and you think you have it tough with water restriction. they are nothing compared to what we have been doing in Perth for many years.

Reduced rainfall in the region in recent years has lowered inflow to reservoirs by two-thirds over the last 30 years, and affected groundwater levels. Coupled with the city's relatively high growth rate, this had led to concerns that Perth could run out of water in the near future.[36] The Western Australian State Government has responded by introducing mandatory household sprinkler restrictions in the city. In November 2006, a sea water desalination plant was opened in Kwinana, able to supply over 45 gigalitres (1.0脳1010 imperial or 1.2脳1010 U.S. gallons) of potable water per year;[37][38] it is powered by electricity produced at the Emu Downs Wind Farm near Cervantes.[39] Consideration was given to piping water from the Kimberley region, but the idea was rejected in May 2006 due primarily to its high cost.[40] Other proposals under consideration included the controversial extraction of an extra 45 gigalitres of water a year from the Yarragadee aquifer in the south-west of the state. However, in May 2007, the state government announced that a second desalination plant will be built at Binningup, on the coast between Mandurah and Bunbury. [2]
It is a very clean city as there is an expensive on the spot fine for littering and many bins around to use. It is also very socially frowned upon.
it is not especially busy city. It's population is about 1.5 million but it is growing all the time as there is a boom on at the moment. This is good and bad as it brings more people but the house prices are going ballistic. Last year it had the highest average housing prices in the whole country.
Crime in Perth is the lowest in Australia but has a high rate of burglary.
The scholls are very good and there a many private school (fee paying) offering a high standard of education. there are 4 Universities in Perth of high national and international standing.
The hospitals in perth are very good. With some world leading surgeons and doctors. Several well-known practitioners and medical researchers have worked at Royal Perth Hospital over the years, including Dr Fiona Wood, winner of the 2005 Australian of the Year Award, and Professor Barry Marshall and Dr Robin Warren, winners of the 2005 Nobel Laureates in Physiology, adding to its prestigious reputation.
There is also a specialist Childrens hospital, Princess Margaret's
