Paris Dakar Rally!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Hi, i have a project on the PARIS DAKAR RALLY due in two days and i need help. PLEASEEEE tell me EVERYTHING you know about this. i need to have background information, why it got started, details on what it is, etc. PLEASE help me!!!! Thanks =]

It began in 1978.
one year ago, there was a rally named la course Abidjan-Nice (not by cars but by moto). Thierry Sabine was one of the conpetitors then he got lost in the middle of the Sahara.
therefore he decided one year later to creat a rally in this dangerous desert. the president proposed Dakar to finish this race. IT's important to notice that all the african countries which partcipate to the Paris Dakar Rally are old french colonies (Marocco, S茅negal, Mali...).
the itinerary changes every year. the rally is finances by Total (french Exxon Mobil).
the rally is named Paris-Dakar but sometimes it does not finish to Dakar (in 1992 from Paris to Cap, South Africa) or begin in Paris (in 2000 from Dakar to Cairo,Egypt; in 2002 from Arras,Nord-Pas-de-Calais,France to Dakar via Madrid).
this year the rallye has been canceled due to terrorist threatens in Mauritania.this is quite odd but the rallye will take place in America from Argentina to Chile in frebruary 2009.
