Describe the events leading up to the construction of the Panama Canal?

ty

'Sho-booz' got it partially correct . But what he neglected to mention is that the French were the first ones who 'tried' to build the canal . They failed miserably and the U.S. stepped in. . . . as usual .
Also, the United States is primarily responsible for Panama even being a country . We helped the Panamanian people get their independence from Colombia . After revolutionary fighting , it all culminated with a trick to get the Colombian leader to come visit Panama. . . . and little did he know there was an army of Panamanians awaiting him when he arrived by train !!

Theodore Roosevelt was president at that time. It was intend to produce a faster and more effective rout between the Pacific ocean, and the Atlantic ocean.
America feared that in the worse case scenario, that if America was ever attacked or invaded, it would need imeadiate response from it's navy. The navy, becaouse it was the most powerfullest millitary force at the turn of the century.
But due to America have both its sides touching two different oceans, this mobilization would have been difficult. The naval ship would have to sial all the way under south america, and then back up just to to other side of the nation.
This is the main reason Roosevelt focused on the Panamal canal
It was more of a forced construction that the U.S. did on Panama. They happened to be the thinnest coulntry between the two oceans.
Many Americans went there to work. It provided numerous jobs, But a negative side to this, was the diseases and sickness awaiting for them in the tropical jungle country. Malairia was a big killer.
Since the building of the Canal, it is safe to say that it benefits all shipments from different countries all over the world.
