What can/should female tourists wear in Panama?

I've heard that in some Central American countries, it is generally inappropriate for women - including tourist women - to wear revealing clothing like shorter shorts and tank tops. Is this true for Panama?

I'm going there in February and I really want to be able to wear my skirts and halter tops because I don't want to get over-heated.

you can wear whatever you want in public in panama...i would just advise you as someone else just did...unlike the relax way in which people dress here in the US when it comes to going to public offices, court, in all honestly any appointment you would have...make sure to dress appropriately...anything bellow casual friday attire would represent a problem...you would never be allowed to step into court in shorts or sleeveless clothing or a t-shirt and saggy jeans, etc...while there is no 'dress code' per say in my country, there is definitely an unwritten law regarding dressing appropriately when dealing with certainly...it's a matter of respect for the establishment, people around you, and yourself...

I always wear nothing when going to Panama.

Wear what you always wear in hot weather. You will be treated according to how you present yourself. Your choice of clothes is up to you.

well if you want to come to panama wear what you like there is no rule in wearing a specific clothes in panama, except when you get in a public building or a corporative building, i've found several tourists wearing short pants, short skirts and walking in sneakers in the citry but you have to bear in mind that the people thought is very different from each other so be confortable to wear what you want and welcome to panama!!

When I went to Panama, I saw people wear everything in Panama City, and people do expect Americans to dress in a more provocative way. Still, you should know that you might be offending some of the older, more conservative people, and many will generally treat you better if you dress upper class in nice and unrevealing apparel. That doesn't mean that you can't wear shorts or skirts, but they should be no more than a hand above your knee. I've also heard some guys say things behind tourists backs that I wouldn't want said about me. I hope that helped.

i am from panama - i was born there - i am usa now.
but no is not wrong to wear revealing clothes.
our clothing down there is the same as USA. only that is summer clothes. anything you feel comfortable on. so your skirts are fine - halter tops are fine.
heck we even wear just like a shirt that only looks like a bra :D
and little pants. and high heels shoes that are like 3 - 4 inch tall :)
dress - and make sure you else being sandals and maybe shoes to walk around if you go out in the jungle.
wherever you feel comfortable is ok as long is nothing that is gonna keep you soo warm because you are obviously going to be on a warm and humidity country. even when it rains doesnt really gets cold is actually refreshing. i love it when it rains.
well.... i hope you have fun!
say hello to my panama!
