I will be going to Goa sometime in August.?

I will be going to Goa sometime in August.Would like to know whether shack at beach providing lovely seafood will be open at this time? What all necssary item we should carry for the trip??

No shacks are usually put up in Nov. till April
August is best time if you love monsoon
Cotton clothes becos you will find humid pricking u, sandals/keds

Beach shacks are closed in August because of the monsoon. The sea is generally unsafe for swimming in; even sitting along the edge of the sea can be dangerous. A lot of people drown during this part of the year.

Your best bet for something to do is to go to Baga/Calangute, where there will be some restaurants and shops, plus Mambo (on Tito's Road) will probably be open at night so you have a place to go for dancing or playing pool.

Starlight (in Arpora), a Goan restaurant that all the locals flock to, will be open. Get a taxi driver to take you there the first time but you can find your way easily enough on a motorobike after that. The seafood is fresh, delicious and inexpensive. But be careful if you've got a sensitive mouth - most of the food there is SPICY!

Cafe Coffee Day (on Baga Road) will definitely be open and the one in Calangute (near Calangute Market) will probably also be open. You can hire a scooter or motorbike but be prepared to pull over if it starts raining - you may have to wait it out for some time.

It will be quite warm, for the most part, so take your summer clothing. Because of the heavy rains, you will also need rubber sandals and a rain jacket. You'll probably need a light sweater or jacket for the evenings.

You won't be able to stay dry no matter what you do and your feet and legs will constantly be splattered with a reddish mud, so don't take anything you want to keep shiny clean!

Even though the beaches will be mostly off limits (you can still sit on the sand and watch the storms over the sea) there will be plenty to do. Ask one of the locals to take you fishing - it's a major pasttime for this time of year. At least the roads will be quite empty of traffic for most of the time, so you'll have the roads to yourself a lot more often than during the high season!

Ask for Rupesh, outside of Coffee Day on Baga Road. He's a taxi driver there and is a decent guy who will NOT take advantage of you!

ya

for lovely shacks n sea food in August try Baga....

Calangute beach will alway be open anytime during the year. If you want to put up at a decent place - the GTDC resorts are the best. Goa is no longer lonely during rains... it in fact is even more beautiful. The beach is for the summer, infact you can discover Goa during the rains when you can sign up for river cruises or go for Dolphin fanatsy. Check with the GTDC resorts who organise regular tours. Swimming in the sea of course is dangerous at this time of the year.

Beach side shacks will be mostly closed. However you will find the standard restaurants like suza lobos, Sparrows nest, starlight open around this time of the year. If you are pure veggie - Plantain leaf should be good for you (actually you can avoid fish around this time)

Any other place in God depends solely on population. Atleast I know that Calangute is much functional than other parts of Goa during the rains.
