If you are going during the high season (October - April) then Agonda is your best bet, so take Mariolla's advice. Both of the places she mentioned are excellent choices.

If you are going outside of the high season, you'll need to go to Baga/Calangute. Don't worry about booking in advance - at that time of year there are plenty of rooms available and they're going cheap!

The only problem with out of season is - you can't go into the sea... You might want to check for a room with AC and a swimming pool available.
