I'm going to Sicily with my boyfriend & was wondering if anyone's been & can recommend places to stay & visit?

Like, where on the Island is the best place to stay? Best hotel? Things to do? All ideas helpful.

My wife is Sicilian and I got married in Sicily. Taormina is definitely one of the most amazing places to visit in Sicily as is the Etna volcano 9which is stil actove but safe to visit).

Taormina has an amazing little town perched on top of a hill and there are tonnes of great shops and an amhithreatre there. From the threatre you can actally view the Etna.
You can also get a cable car down to the beach.

Definately stay in Catania also and visit the local fish market and also this is a good base to go up the Etna volcano (you can go up as far as the old crater) which is good.

The Aeolian Islands are also excellent i.e. the island of Vulcano etc. Syracusa is also meant to be good but I haven't been to that city yet.

I went on a day trip a few years ago.....was on holiday in Malta!!! Mount Etna if the day is clear would be worth a trip, the views are spectacular and you can see how the surrounding areas have been affected - previous lava flows!!!!!
On the way back down from there, we stopped of in Taormina. It is a beautiful town which overlooks the sea and is well worth a visit.

Don't go over there expecting to come back skinny.....the food is amazing!!!! I only went for a day, but will return for longer. Have a fantastic holiday

I loved Taormina. The little town is high in the hills of Sicily and you can see Mt Etna. We were on a tour, we visited the Greek Theater and the town. Did you know ice cream was invented in Sicily. It's called gelato. Make sure you try the "ice coffee" in Sicily, it's coffee with gelato and whip cream. So good.
We also toured Mt Etna and that was fascinating. There is a little grocery store (named La Capannina) near Mt Etna where the lava just stopped at the window. The people of Italy are very devoted to the Virgin Mary and they build a little grotto there in thanksgiving to her for saving their store.
I wasn't impressed with Palermo but maybe I didn't go to the right places.

I love Italy and any place in Italy is wonderful. You will be in awe with every place. Sorry I don't remember the hotel we stayed at in Taormina but it was high in the hills.

Have a wonderful trip. I'm jealous.
