What do I need to pack for my son going off to college, is there a list?

What do I need to pack for my son going off to college, is there a list?

How thoughtful of you! Things I wish my mom had packed:
1. Some nutritious snacks that keep well outside a refrigerator (like those nutrigrain bars, etc.). There are times when you're up at 3 AM trying to cram for a test and you don't want to order another pizza.
2. A first aid kit. Ya never know.;-)
3. Diet soda
4. Plenty of cheap pens and paper.
5. A decent laptop.
6. Condoms (your call on this one, but better than the alternative)
7. Gift cards for places he might shop, like McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Barnes and Noble... maybe even Ikea.
8. Noise cancelling headphones.
9. A little note hidden somewhere to remind him you love him and believe in him.

Let him pack his own stuff, he's an adult.

Lots of aspirin. He'll need them for morning afters.

tooth paste, laundry detergent, tooth brush, some food, and drinks, pens, alarm clock.

There are several packing lists on line, just do a search and you should find one. I do it all the time for vacations.

Might be time to cut the apron strings, if he is the one going, let him decide. If he forgets something, he can call you to send it to him.

go to fastweb.com and they have some great articles for parents sending their children to college

Condoms and beer money

If your son is going off to college. . . let him get the list and pack his own bag. Step aside some mom and let him be an adult. How's he going to learn anything. The world isn't a pretty place. Good Luck!

The college has a list. Have him pack his own things.

condoms

if hes staying in residence, bed sheets, maybe two pairs for when he washes the first set. computer, laptop doesnt have to be an expensive one but something he can take to class and do his work on. Basically things to live, hes gotta survive without you some how;)

basic survival things you could ask him or he should be prepared to go

First off, I think he's a big boy and can pack hisself. He should know what he may need.

it's as if he is living away from home. he needs everything that he would need at home at his dorm. Two things you really need: microwave and mini fridge. You are the mommy.... you know what it takes for him to make it comfortably in a foreign location.

if you're like my mum, you'll pack everything twice! just to make sure i'm not short.

bless my mum.

...(1) American Express credit card. (anything else is superfluous).

Canned food. He will thank you when he has no money!

clean underwear, extra socks, lap top and a hidden tape recorder. actually forget the recorder, you may not want to know what he is really doing. i am proud of you. my son is only nine and i already don't want him to go.

Surely he can pack his own stuff? maybe throw in some cookies for him?

There's a really good book titled "Everything you need to know about dorming and college" or something like that. Pick it up. Look online for a list. Ask other people what they brought to school. Or... just do like the rest of the population and trial and error it. If he needs something he didn't bring, he can pick it up on the weekend or whenever he visits.

I was looking for a list for another question on just moving from home and found a college list. Check it out http://www.minti.com/parenting-advice/62... :)

The school usually sends a "basic needs" list, and "banned items" list, with the Freshman orientation/new student package. Honestly you don't need much if you're in the dorms. You can take quite a bit if you really want to, but the rooms are normally pretty dang small. Just revisited my old campus the other week and swung though the dorms. I can't believe I used to live in those small sized rooms, espically w/ a roommate!

When you go to orientation, they will most likely give you a list of suggested items. Don't make him bring something if he doesn't want it even if it's on the list. It will rot in his closet and take up valuable space. General 1st apartment stuff is a good idea, but don't go crazy with cleaning supplies and kitchen stuff. He'll need a few things, but there won't be much space for storage. Check with the college regarding the size of the beds. Some schools have twin beds, but some have ExtraLong Twin beds. You might want to check on that now because if it's extra long, those sheets can be hard to find. Let him make the decisions. He's the one who will have to live with them. you can tell him I told you so later if you're right about something.

just make a list for yourself and double check it to see if it is correct maybe with someone else that recently went off to college but basically you need like kitchen ware like pots, pans, forks, knifes, spoons, cups, plates, bowls, towels for kitchen , towels for bathroom, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, rugs for bathroom, cover for toilet, tub curtain, curtain for window, etc......
