How long do I need to have a passport before going over seas?

We have been invited to a wedding overseas and have not got a passport. How long do I need to have one before I can go overseas? Also what injections would I need to have before going?

If you apply for a passport through the post office, it'll take about 6-8 weeks depending on how fast they process it. If you don't have that much time then there are a lot of places that offer expedited passport services for about $150 dollars.

As for the injections, do some research online about the country you're going to.

You can travel overseas as soon as you have the passport in your hand. Consult the Surgeon General website to see what countries have communicable illness and get the shots to prevent them.

I don't think there is a minimum ammount of time that you have to have the passport, you just have to have one if you want to travel internationally. You may want to apply for it soon as the wait time is low right now (4-6 weeks per the website, however I got mine in 3). You need to speak with your doctor or local health department about what vaccinations you'll need, if you'll need any at all.

You can go as soon as the ink is dry in the passport. The innoculations you should have depend on where you are going. Ask your doctor about general health information. You should do some research on your own, too. In many countries, it is not safe to drink the water. In some places it is safe to buy food from street vendors, and in some places it is not.
