Traveling from us to uk with mum's ashes to scatter?

will i be able to carry ashes in carry on or check in with baggage?

From the British Airways website:

Carriage of cremated remains/ashes

Question
Is it possible to take cremated remains/ashes on board your flights?

Answer
Cremated remains/ashes can be carried on board our flights either in your hand baggage or in your hold baggage.

In order to comply with regulations, you will need to carry with you all necessary documentation including a Certificate of Death issued by a competent authority from your departure country. You will also need to ensure that the cremated remains are packed in a sealed outer box or case.

Please note: If you are carrying cremated remains with you in your hand baggage, please be aware to expect full security procedures to be applied i.e. the sealed box/case will be x-rayed at the airport security point.

Cremated remains can also be carried as cargo, booked through your local British Airways Cargo office.

Check with the airline you are travelling with.

All the best.

Ring your airline direct and ask -

Carry on. It's only small, and you don't want it getting lost.

it shouldnt be a problem either way, just make sure it's properly sealed. if you take it on board with you it will have to be x-rayed.

You should be able to carry them with you in
hand luggage but ask the Airline you book with to make sure , sorry for your loss :(

Probably in your hand luggage, as long as securely wrapped. Its not liquid so i would of thought that it be fine. Sorry to hear about your mum. x

check with your ticket vendor and also check with an independent vendor, a second opinion is good move

Yes, you can bring them with you. I would suggest that you bring them with you on the plane. (First off, you don't want the cremains to be lost, second if they can't be xrayed-they may be taken out of your bag and you will not know it until you get to your destination). If you elect to carry them on, have them put into a cardboard or wooden box. Some of the metal urns cannot be seen through during the xray screening process and TSA is NOT allowed-never-ever to open them and do a physical inspection. If TSA cannot determine what is inside of a metal container-the container will NOT be allowed through the checkpoint. Due to the fact you are flying overseas, you may also want to bring with you a letter from the funeral home that handled the arrangements authenticating the cremains. Sorry to hear of your loss, you are in my prayers.

aah! we had this problem last year. empty some of them (if possible) into a smaller pot of some sort, it needs to be see-through. you will need to bring a death certificate/ cremation certificate as well. you'll need to put them through x-ray.

I am sorry for your loss.

It should be okay but check with your airline to make sure.

I would suggest you handcarry in on the plane so that you make sure you don't lose them so you'll have to put it through the xray machine for security screening just like any other hand carried item.

Sorry for your loss........
