I have been offered a job in Ottawa, Canada. Where is a nice place nearby to live?

Would prefer a more rural area than living in the city. WOuld be prepared to commute 30 mins to get to Ottawa.

Any suggestions?

What areas would you recommend to live in?

Here is a list of what i think are good neighbourhoods to live in!

Gatineau-Aylmer Secteur and Gatineau Secteur (If you want to live in Quebec)

Kanata-Stittsville if you want to live in a smaller but upscale community within ottawa. note kanata is quite expenisve for a good quality home. Kanata West is more rural but with a few urban amenities. Like a main street with a few stores. Its goes rural until u reach stittsville.

Barrhaven a lovely community of a mere 88,000 but has everything and is not only close to downtown but has alot of rural properties along Prince of Wales

Kemptville- quite quiet community of a few thousand is mostly rural but has everything u need at a half hours drive to ottawa via the 416 and if your working in nepean take Hunt Club Road Exit for most work places. It is alot faster then driving along Prince of Wales (old highway 16)

Take it and enjoy the scenery!

I'd love to visit!!!

I would go Ottawa, Canada..

Amazing place, scenery is outstanding.

Where's your job going to be located?
Manotick to the south of the city(not totally rural though)
Kemptvile further south.but it's gonna be more than 30 mins depending on where your job is.
Cumberland, Embrun, Russell east of the city, closes to 30 mins, again depending on which part of the city your job is

I moved to the Ottawa area 4 years ago. I think the best place to live is Kemptville. I commute to Ottawa everyday and trust me it's not that far. Kemptville is also a very inexpensive place to live.

The closest "rural" places to live to Ottawa would be:
West of Ottawa - Carleton Place or Stittsville
East of Ottawa - Rockland
South of Ottawa - Winchester / Embrun / Vars

All of these would be "30 minutes" from Ottawa except during rush hour as traffic would make it a little longer in time but not distance.

Actually, I would say that Greely is the closest rural area in Ottawa and it is beautiful here. I live here and it takes me about 30-35 minutes to get downtown. Homes are built on lots ranging in size from 1/2-acre to 2-acres, and are all unique, as there are no major developers but rather individual home owners who have built homes from custom plans. So no cookie cutter look here.

Another perk is that, with the airport in the south end of Ottawa, we live only 10 minutes from it but don't get the noise that the East or West get as planes generally take off in those directions, not heading south. So from a travel perspective, very convenient!

Kemptville is nice, and close to the 416. You could take a look at places like Stittsville or Carleton Place as well

try out Rockland ,Ontario it's about 15,to 20 minutes from Ottawa. east of Ottawa

Kanata, a suburb just on the outskirts of Ottawa, or Arnprior if you want a small town atmosphere. I am from Ottawa and went to highschool in Arnprior, it is a really beautiful area.
