What is the weather like?

What is the weather like in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in March ? What are the average high and low temperature (in Celsius)? What should a traveler wear in that time of the year? Thanks in Advance for your response.

Bring a warm winter coat. Ottawa is still quite cold in March. Even though spring technically starts on March 21, in Ottawa the weather is still very winterish. March can be very unpredictable. Some years are milder and then other (many) years we've had major snow storms in March. Often there is freezing rain as well.

The average high is around 3 or 4 degrees Celsius but it CAN and does get much colder. Count on it. With the wind chill factor taken into account we can get lows of -20 in March. Ottawa is very windy.

March is not exactly the best month for Ottawa. But the weather changes rapidly and spring comes by the end of April, it's much more habitable and the temps are in the low teens. May is beautiful and spring seems to happen overnight. Ottawa's tulip festival is a great tourist attraction that takes place over Canada's Victoria Day weekend (3rd Monday in May).

So, if you're visiting in March, be prepared for all manner of nasty weather! Winter coat, scarf, hat, boots or warm waterproof shoes.
