Planning to move to Ottawa...can anyone help?

Hi

I am planning to migrate to Canada, and after doing my fair share of research, found out that Ottawa is a good place.

Here are some details abt me.
1. I'm planning to move with my family - there are 10 of us
2. I prefer affordable housing, say less than $200K, with abt 3-4 bedrooms
3. I have an MBA and am hoping to find a job which can make use of my Masters degree in Ottawa
4. My dad likes to live in places with a scenic view
5. I prefer a place close enough to town so I can travel to work

So, can anyone help me in anyway?
I truly appreciate any advice...thanks!

You won't find anything in the 200K range in Ottawa that is in a nice neighbourhood, a colleague of mine paid about $150k ish for a semi-detacthed about a half hour out of the city (OC Region) another is being transfered and he is looking at $300K range for a detached and he said that nice places in town are going for a lot more. Housing IS cheaper on the Quebec side BUT taxes are more and then there is that whole French thing.

If you don't mind a long (about 1 hour) commute you can live along the St Lawrence river in Cornwall, Morrisburg or Prescott. Housing is substantially cheaper there, the same is true but to a lesser degree along the Ottawa river. To travel to Ottawa from Morrisburg & Prescott there is a superhighway (416)100KPH to the west end of Ottawa and from Cornwall there is a regular road(138) 80KPH to another highway (417) to the east end

I can't address your job prospects as any position that would hire a MBA is beyond my knowledge

Good luck with imigration if you decide to come to Canada but not to put you off but Ottawa is regarded as one of the coldest capital cities in the world. They have generally a 70 degree C temperatue swing from +35C summer to -35C winter

You will propably arrive at the Montreal hub or Toronto. Gloucester is a nice neighbour. I love Ottawa too, good luck!

Well if you want scenic you can live in Cumberland, Navan, or Kanata. Orleans, and Gloucester are nice neighborhoods and are only about 15 min from downtown.

a house for 200k and 3-4 bedrooms is unrealistic in Ottawa. Hull Qu茅bec may have something. Anyways good luck.

ottawa housing is quite expensive, especially close to downtown which i assume is where you'd be working. sounds to me like you may prefer halifax with more affordable housing, good jobs, better scenery. if you're not french you will have trouble getting a good job as being bilingual is required for most spots there.

Another option is Rural Ottawa. Towns like Arnprior and Carleton Place are scenic and very good value. You could probable fine a home for 200K plus/minus 15%. However, both towns are a ways from Downtown Ottawa, approximately 50 km. There are rural bus routes available but not a lot. If you plan to work in Ottawa west (such as Kanata) these towns are great solutions as the commute is around 30km with not much traffic. You will likely require a car though.

My family and I choose Carleton Place because of its good value, scenario and neighborhood feel. I also work in Kanata.

good luck

Ottawa is a beautiful city, but you absolutely will not find work there unless you are 100% bi-lingual. Degree or no degree, it won't matter at all. Not sure if somebody already said that yet. It's pretty much a city wide regulated standard, it is the capitol after all.
