Mapletapping ottawa?

when does the maple tapping season begin in ottawa? need 2 book flights is mid march too early?

2nd week of March is usually when they start tapping trees. It depends on the weather, it needs to be a couple degrees above freezing so the sap will flow.

Maple sap harvesting requires nights to be cold and days to be warm. The sap is actually deflected out of the trees by metal or plastic spouts as it is rising from the roots into the branches to feed the leaf buds.

Maple syrup production usually occurs in Quebec sugar shacks from end of February to the end of April. I would think that the Ottawa area would be about the same, since they are only two hours away.
