Which are the best places to visit around Ottawa, ON?

Hey, I'd like to hear some opinions from people who have been nearby Ottawa. I'll move there, so I'd like to know which are the best places to visit around the city.

As a city for quality of life, I don't think you can do better. I grew up in the Hamilton/Toronto area and have visited every major city in Canada and the US as well as many cities around the world and I still say Ottawa is the best city in which to live.

If you are into museums Ottawa has dozens of them. The must see are the Museum of Civilization, the Nature Museum, the War Museum, and the Science and Techology Museum. The National Gallery and the Parliament Buildings tour are also typical and worthwhile tourist destinations.

However there are many things in Ottawa that as a soon to be resident will make you realise what I am talking about. For example, buy a bike and cycle the hundreds of kilometers of bike paths around the city. Explore Gatineau Park by foot , by bike, by cross-country ski. Spend a full day on the Market during the summer and catch the vibe of the city. Skate on the Rideau Canal during the winter. Take part in the dozens of festivals Ottawa has during the summer. Check out the night life on the Market and Elgin Street, especially during the early autumn when the university students return and the weather is still warm.

Once a year Ottawa has an open door weekend where it allows free visits to many unusual buildings normally closed to the general public. If you have access to a car, there are many great places to visit just outside Ottawa such as Montebello, Merrickville, Upper Canada Pioneer Village and hundreds of amazing lakes if you are into cottaging or camping.

Because I don't know your situation or tastes I suggest you explore the internet and explore the city once you're here.

u mean like tourism places? well i've never been there but i am from winnipeg. I guess the parlament building, any government stuff, but sorry i dont know much else! go on a tourism website, it'll have people's reviews of different attractions.

I went to university in Ottawa, but haven't been back in a while. There is the parliament buildings, the war memorials, the cenotaph, Byward Market, Winterlude festival in February. Lots of other festivals during the year, I remember a tulip festival. The National Gallery is good. If you are into hockey, catch a Senators or 67's game. Skating on the Rideau Canal and eating the beavertails is a lot of fun. There are a ton of museums.

good answer forever5 spark st is also a pedestrian only place with shops and restaurant then there's also the locks cathedral casino air museum hogs back falls and ur just a hop skip and jump from hull

As others have said, there are scads of museums, national monuments, federal buildings, and parks. In addition, you can walk along the Ottawa and Rideau rivers as well as the canal. You'll find lots of cool shopping in the Byward Market, as well as restaurants. The suburbs include shopping centers and restaurants. A few miles outside of Ottawa, you'll find provincial parks in both Ontario and Quebec. Try the site below.

Welcome to Ottawa.
