Son in Ottawa working Best Buy?

A greiving parent ,my son starting working at Best Buy about 3 months ago and wants to come home to Newfoundland for Christmas they will not let him have Boxing Day off whatsoever even tho he is off a couple days after boxing day. What would you do, Suck It Up or suggest soemthng to do. Thank you Merry Christmas oops if I am allowed to say that.

Your son has started a job and has commitments that need to be honoured. Boxing Day is one of the busiest most stressful days of the year for retailers, and I am sure that they need everyone they have available for that day. Since most stores work on seniority, the person who has been working there for 7 years will be allowed to choose the vacation days they want over the person working three months.

Essentially, your son has two decisions:

1) Work for that day and then come visit you a couple of days later.

2) Quit the job and lose a source of revenue so that he can be with his parents on Boxing Day.

As I am sure that you taught your son well about the importance of making a good impression and working hard for his money, I doubt that you would want your son to quit his job just so it is more convenient for you during the holidays.

If he was not allowed to see a dying family member because of the job, I'd say quit. In this case, I say suck it up...it is only 24-48 hours later and you can hug him and be happy he made it home at all for the holidays. What about all the families whose father or mother are presently overseas "enjoying" a Christmas in the Afghanistan desert?
