Is there work for the monolingual (English) in Ottawa?

My friend moved to Ottawa and his gf is hesitant to move up there as she is not bilingual. Is there work for someone who only speaks English in Ottawa?

as long she's not looking for a government job she'll find many as a unilingual., she'll get paid more and find a better job if she is bilingual though

She may have difficulty finding any job that deals with the government or the public. That means that working as a cashier, waitress, counselor, sales clerk, or customer support representative may not be easy to find.

On the other hand, if she has skills in software design, seamstress, accounting clerk, or other jobs that do not necessarily deal with the public, she should be okay.

Yes, it's just many government jobs require billingualism, depends on what kind of job she's interested in, my friend works in ottawa in a law firm and doesn't speak a word of english, she was even offered a government job without any french.

The GF doesn't need to speak French at all, BUT government jobs will be limited and that is all levels of government. There are many positions that don't care if you only speak English and they are not all in the service industry. My partner was employed by several legal firms in Ottawa when she was working there. Also if the GF is a nurse they don't care if you speak English or French as long as you have a valid Nursing licence.

Unless she works in the government or public sector it's not NECESSARY, profs here (some) dont' speak French. But knowing French is the best asset in Ottawa. It's pretty much 50/50 downtown.
