Live or been in Ottawa ??

My mom and I are about to go to Ottawa for my birthday present. She said that I could pick one restaurant to go to and I want to pick a good one. So do you have any suggestions?

I like Chinese, Japanese, East Indian and Canadian food. I also like buffets and dim sum.

Thanks!

Yup, lived in Ottawa! Been to it plenty of times- most of my family lives there.

Anyways, it depends exactly where you'll be staying in Ottawa. East side? West side? I know there are LOTS of great restaurants there- definitely some with types you've named. I don't know specifically, but I do know there are quite a few Indian restaurants.

If we're talking downtown Ottawa- check out this site ->

If not, try here -> http://www.ottawakiosk.com/restaur0.html
You might need to take some time and check out the restaurant details and sites, but if you really want to find a good one...

This is the best I can do, hope I helped. :]

P.S -- Capital of the country! Good choice.

I'm going to assume you are talking about downtown. I would reccomend: The Japanese Village- they cook everything at your table. The Empire Grill. Haveli Restaurant. Try searching 'Ottawa restaurants'. There are so many cool places, try to find one of the many places that look different- in a good way.

Yes, live here and have for 30 years.

Chinese buffet - the one at the Emeral Plaza on Merrivale
Japanese - there's a few dopwntown, one on Albert with a wter wheel out front, one at Laurier and Metcallfe, the same building as the Canada Trust and there used to be a good one on Kent near Albert. I don't go to Japanese places much so I can't advise beyond that
Indian: I go to the buffet on Laurier between Elgin and Metcalfe, they serve a good mango Lycee
Canadian - you could try the Mill, its near the new War Museum, just off the Parkway - its a very reputable steakhouse, as is Friday's downtown. best Canadian thoughis probably at the national Arts Centre at Le cafe or at the main restaurant, I forget the name, in the Chateau Laurier. You often see politicians at those spots.

My preference for ethnic food in Ottawa is Thai which can be had at Corriander Thia and Sweet Basil. One is on Bank at Walkley (across from a canada Trust) the other is on eithe Metcallfe or O'connor, I think O'connor, you'd find it in the phone book. Very exclusive (the one on O'connor) but delicious food.

I very highly recommend the Merlot Rooftop Grill, check out this link:

Go for Sunday brunch, all you can eat for $31 (quality food, not usual buffet crap) and you get to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Ottawa.
