How do you get outlet stores to open in your town?

Our downtown is dying and I think that outlet stores would be a great attraction. Our town is 1/2 way between Montreal and Ottawa and also not too far from the U.S. border.

I am sorry to say but outlet stores will only set up in a certain area if they think there is a market for the store. You could do some research in to if people have to travel a great distance to another place to shop, if your small local store won't be put out of business. Also, car parking has to be thought of and access. But I'm sure if you approached your local mayor maybe then he/she could give you some advice.

Outlet stores actually KILL the small businesses that make small town "downtown cores" so attractive to tourists. If you want tourism dollars, revitalizing the downtown is a much better plan!
