Best areas to buy a house in Ottawa?

We are familly with two kids, and we want to move in Ottawa.
I want to know the best areas to buy a house there, good schools, safe....

Depends on your finances. If you have the cash then try for Centrepointe. There are good schools, it has easy access to the Queensway and shopping. There is also a really nice park across from the library.

If you want a little cheaper, there is Kanata or Barrhaven. Both are suburbs and are substantially less expensive. The newer schools are in the area. Plus there are many young families close by. They both have varying degrees of costs and amenities based on the area in the suburb. However, they both will require some commute time to downtown.

Ottawa is a fairly safe place to live. Just avoid the downtown core, Vanier and Market area. Otherwise, the rest of Ottawa is moderately safe.

What are your financial needs?

If it doesn't matter, I suggest the Glebe area. Why? It's close to downtown, has affordable housing, and is oriented for families.

You really need to tell us how much you are willing to spend to buy or rent a house, and whether or not your looking for a detached house, semi, town, or apartment-style. Housing prices vary widely in Ottawa depending on the neighbourhood, the size, style, and size of lot. I understand the average single house price is approximately $250k, now.

Also, if you know where you will be working, let us know the area, and then how long a commute are you willing to put up with.

If you can afford it, Rockcliffe Park. You'd be neigbours with the Primeminister, the GG and all the ambassadors etc...
