How safe is it for a 20 year old causcasian woman to go jogging in Oaxaca and Chiapas (Mexico)?

For clarification, I included that I was caucasian so that it'd be obvious that I'm going to stand out from most of the locals in terms of appearance. This isn't meant to be interpreted as racist.

Also, I'm trying to figure out whether it's safe to jog because I'm a marathoner, not because I'm trying to lose weight.

What does you being Caucasian have to do with it?

Just wondering.

It would be as safe as you running in a large city in the states. I was going to edit something mean into my previous answer but I think negative answers are a waste of internet space. Instead I will tell you that that area is considered "dangerous". There are guerrilla fighters in some parts of Chiapas. I guess it just depends what part you're going to. Either way. Wherever you are you should try to be safe and always run with someone. You should have no problem in Oaxaca since it is mainly indigenous people. Sorry for being an ***. Good luck.

Probably not very safe.

Hullo hullo hullo is any1 there?????
dya wanna see 21? Jog by day or lose weight by night, are you still there????

Hello, I'm mexican and I am so embarrassed to tell you that you must avoid to travel to Oaxaca now, there's a big problem with the teachers, otherwise Chiapas is great, if your plans are to stay at the capital state Tuxtla Gutierrez you will have a great time, also try to vitist Palenque there is a very small town but full of tourist from all over, it's safer there, regards!

Sounds like a great idea if you have advanced AIDS and brain cancer and you plan to die the next day anyway...... COME ON!!!

hahaha
Are you kidding?

Do not waste your time, stay in your country, you will not be welcome, for your own safe, stay away!!!

Oaxaca... not very safe. Chiapas... it deppends on the city. My best option is a big no. Seriously, I lived in mexico for 8 years and my family is mostly mexican (even though I'm caucasian), I know about the culture... and a 20 year old caucasian woman, jogging... That does more than just stand out. And think about it... with the attitude of americans torwards mexicans, don't you think there's some kind of racism back? Sadly there is. Mostly in southern mexico... sorry about ruining your dream girl, but it's just plain dangerous.

I麓ve been there and I can safely say they are very welcoming people. You won麓t stand out because people in those states are used to tourists and different races, you麓ll be just like every other tourist.
Although there have been social problems, I can assure you, you won麓t see riots or disturbances. Tourism is very important, and just as you don麓t see dealers, rapists or murderers in Disneyland or any other tourist attraction, you won麓t see them there. If you end up going, have a good time, enjoy the beautiful scenarios, and just take the basic and reasonable precautions.

I'd skip Oaxaca right now, political unrest is rampant. There are many other states where you can jog unmolested. Although, today it was 101 degrees at the beach in Baja California. Caucasians welcome.

Just out of curiosity, when are you planning on going? I am going to oaxaca and maybe chiapas for 3 weeks, starting 8/1. I was wondering where/if i could run too. I'm not a marathoner, so i probably couldn't keep up, but i usually run 6-10 miles.

Perhaps a running buddy would make it safer? I'm a 27 yr old female. Just a thought. I may have a male friend in oaxaca who might want to run too.
