Is Oaxaca in Mexico safe to visit right now?

I ask this in light of the recent protests that have been in the news. We're hearing mixed reports, and were hoping to come for our honeymoon in 10 days...

I just was in Oaxaca city. Wonderful place. The protests weren't violent. We just got back on Sunday and had no problems. There were a few distractions, but even in the center where the protestors are, there wasn't any problem with the protestors. I know there has been some isolated incidents with Gringos, but we had no problem. We were two single girls traveling alone and felt safer there than Mexico City. I'd suggest spending some time on the beaches or in the small towns however. Its not as crazy. The biggest inconvenience was the municipal building was closed...but that wasn't a big deal. There still were quite a few gringo visitors in the area. Go, have a great time!

Last I heard it was safe to travel. Good luck on the Honeymoon try to stay straight. reaper out.......

If you mean the City of Oaxaca - safe but a pain in the **** with the teachers demonstrations. Downtown is the main attraction and it's almost impossible.

If you mean the beaches of Oaxaca .... no problems

I haven't heard anything going on where your headed.... You'll enjoy it, hot but the beaches are great...

Yes.

Yes but with all the strikes, trty to not go to the city you can try the beaches

Since some "teachers" have taken the streets and downtown, it is not the safest and nicer place to visit, but I don't think it is not safe. Maybe you can visit another nice city this time, and later come back to the wonderful Oaxaca.

Suggestions: Morelia, Guanajuato, Puebla, San Miguel de Allende, Zacatecas, Mexico City

I have spent much time in Oaxaca To day I had e-mail from Oxaca, my friend is gona leave for a while, he says it could happen any time. I wouldn't go.

The problem is only in some places. Keep safe asking before you go out to downtown. Better if not. If you are in your honey moon it wont be necessary...

Happy days and congratulations !
