Places of interest on a Normandy Beaches visit?

Places of interest on a Normandy Beaches visit?

Besides the D-Day beaches, there are several very interesting and beautiful sites on the Normandy Coast.

Deauville: This is a beautiful town that was developed for the rich and famous of the 19th Century. It still has a quaint downtown, luxurious hotels, and a beautiful beach.

Etretat: Beautiful rock formations.

Honfleur: A beautiful port town that many French explorers left from.

Mont St Michel: One of the most impressive sites in the world. It's a monastery/city built on a rock which is an island at high tide. The tide comes in very fast some times (15 mph) and it is a very impressive show to see it happen.

The American cemetary would be one place of interest.

Longues -sur- mer where you can see some huge german coastal battery guns and the observation post on the cliff face which features in the film The Longest Day.
The memorial on the five landing beaches.
Arromanches with the remains of the Mulberry harbour and the D-Day museum.
Pegasus bridge at Ranville where the first battle of the day was fought.
Many allied cemeteries ,large and small.

Some complements :

- Trouville and Houlgate are also interesting beach resorts, though they do not have the "planches", festival and abundance of luxury car Deauvill has.
- The Marais Vernier is an interesting area with typical old normand houses, small orchards and lots of ponds (it is a great area for birding)
- If you are interested in D-Day themes, do not miss the Bayeux battle of Normandy museum, the pointe du Hoc.
- In Bayeux, the tapestry museum and cathedral are also worth a visit.

wonderful answers from everyone. I would just add that I went to Honfleur, Roeun, the d day beachs and the museum. It was a truly wonderful experience (made even better by staying in a gite 脿 la ferme).

Deuville, Trouville, and Honfleur. Deuville is a small village visited often by the rich and famous of France and England. They also have a horse race track there, a gambling casino, and a huge beach. Trouville is home to the great French writer Gustave Flaubert. Honfleur is home to many French painters. It's an art colony, where you could find many famous French actors and actresses. I was there five years ago, and I have fond memories of those three areas.
