why slots?

A french letter box is yellow, approximately cubic, about 30-35cm per side, and is usually mounted at a height of around 1m-1.2m. There is one slot to post letters in. Sometimes there are two boxes mounted side by side, one for local letters (within the Department) and one for other letters.
