New York City to Niagara Falls?

I am planning a trip to New York City and would like to make a visit to Niagara Falls. I would like to stay one or two nights on the Canadian side of the falls. What's a convenient way to travel?

The best way to travel would be either on a Greyhound bus or Amtrak to Niagara Falls, Ontario. If you're not American, you will need a passport to cross the border.

For train travel, you take Amtrak's maple leaf route.The price depends on when you travel. The average economy price is $55 - $80 each way. It takes 7 hours to drive but it will take 9 hours on the train because there will be a 2 hour wait at the border (they need to check ID of every passenger on the train).

For bus travel, you can go with Greyhound or Coach USA.

When you are booking (for train or bus) make sure you select Niagara Falls, ONTARIO (Canada) as your arrival location, because Amtrak and the buses go to both Niagara Falls, NY and Niagara Falls, ON. I would reccomed staying at at least 3 nights in Niagara Falls because you will probably be tired from all the travelling and you want some time to relax and take in all the sights.

For hotels on the Canadian side I would reccomed the Marriott Fallsview hotel, but there are lot's of others to choose from. Fallsview hotels can be expensive so choose carefully.

The trains are quite good, and I suspect you will find that they go pretty close to Niagara Falls, NY (the city) on the US side. I expect buses go there as well. (Greyhound used to be the biggest operator when I last used the buses in the US)

From NY city Grand Central Station will be where you go for your first train out of Manhattan.

Greyhound does it in about 8-11 hours, with no transfers but probably quite a few stops on the way.

A hire car will take you there pretty quick.

You could fly, and cut the time travelling down.

I have been there as a tourist, and drove a car which I was delivering from Boston to San Francisco. Just had to pay the petrol, but had a limited time to travel. Stayed in the HI hostel in Niagara falls, NY.

Well the distance is around 400-450 miles and you can get there by bus, train or fly, for a short stay in Canada it is easy to do, but with the regulation for crossing the border if your coming from Europe or another country you will need 2 pieces of picture ID, a passport or a driver licence or government based id with picture, and with our dollar slightly more now it depends on your time of travel.

Figure for the bus or train 4-5 hours, flying by one of the smaller airline will only take 90 minute to Niagara Falls IN airport, there are no buses that cris-cross the border, you can walk over the Rainbow bridge for a nice view of the falls and into Canada, NF ONT has a transit system, but the sights, casinos, shops and hotels are all in one general area.

If you choose to fly go from New York to Buffalo and take Niagara Airbus to hotel in Canada. Flights to and from Buffalo cheaper and more frequent than to Niagara Falls Airport. Buffalo is only 30 Minutes from Falls.
