What is an unabridged birth certificate?

This is the British definition

"There are two types of birth certificates available which are issued by the General Register Office. As the short or abridged copy only gives the child鈥檚 full name, sex, date and place of birth it is the long or unabridged birth certificate which is more commonly requested."

So it sounds like they are after the one that shows the age, occupation and address of your parents, etc.

There are 2 types of birth certificates. One that fits in your wallet that has your name, birth date and birth place. The unabridged certificate is a full size certificate looking like an awards certificate. It additionally lists who is officially listed as your parents. Infants travel better with this type to cross the border as it shows you as the parent who has custody over the child. Or any situation where listing the parents is helpful.
