Do We Need Passports To Walk To Canada For Niagara Falls?

Do we need passports to walk across the border or drive across the border to go to see Niagara Falls on the Canadian side in February?
Anyone have a website with the phone number of someone to call to find out this information???

Hi I'm Canadian...I don't think as an American citizen you need passports to come to Canada by land. What you will need is to have some proof of citizenship (i.e Birth Certificate, citizenship card etc).

If you want more information then google Canadian Border Services and it will take you to the website that will give you all the info you need...and I'm pretty sure there's a 1 800 number there as well...

If you are traveling by land you will NOT need a US passport to enter into Canada from the US.

You WILL need a US drivers license AND proof of citizenship to return to the United States.

I have friends that went to Niagara Falls a few months ago.

They could not go over to the Canadian side, as they did not have passports with them.

With all the security today, it is not surprising, and you are leaving the country and crossing the border.

A copy of your birth certificate and drivers license is fine. You will need a passport come summer of 2008; but until then the certificate and license is fine.

The Canadian border is notoriously easy to enter; many border patrols will simple ask questions and not even look at your documents. Going to the U.S. by driving is another story. My car has been searched through and through while jsut trying to get to a Bills game, lol.

There are bad horror stories of people coming to Canada to see the falls, and not being able to reenter the U.S.
