When will Niagara's American Falls be "shut off"?

While visiting Niagara Falls last year, NBC interviewed a Niagara Park official who said a dam would be constructed to "shut off" the American Falls this summer to study erosion. When will this happen, and how long will the Falls be "shut off"?

Actually it is possible to do this and it was done in the 1960s. The technical term is "dewatering" the falls. I've heard nothing about any plan to do so again. In any event by far most of the water goes over the Canadian (Horseshoe) Falls.

First they are going to "turn the sun off" for a couple of days
