What's the best way to get to Niagara Falls and what do you recommend for a romantic get away? |
My fiance and I are wanting to plan a trip to Niagara Falls and I need some pointers on which airport to fly into leaving from Texas and recommended hotels and what to do. I would love any decent honest answers. fly in to Buffalo, less customs hassels and no taxes. Many options to get to Falls, renting car easiest, many hotels to choose from depending on budget, look up Niagara Falls websites. Niagara-on-the-Lake is most romantic area, short distance from Falls, take one of the many wine country tours. Depending on time of year there are many attractions for couples, plenty of nightlife, and a host of restaurants to choose from, fine dining to fast food. The city is easy to navigate, but busy in prime times. A good rental car will have a GPS to guide you. If you have the time, and have never been, the City of Toronto is an hour away, and worth the trip as well. We stayed at the Hampton Inn on the Canadian side. It was very nice and within walking distance to the falls. I don't have any airport advice though, we flew from Orlando FL to Toronto because we were visiting my BIL who lives in Toronto. Then we all drove to Niagara Falls. I am not sure what airport you would fly into bc the hubby and I lived in Buffalo and would just drive across. I would def. stay on the Canadian side. The NY side is a rough town. Niagara falls is very touristy and VERY overpriced. There are two casinos (last time I went at least), which are a decent time, but also a way to spend money very quickly (especially if you are like me and know the least bit about gambling. I stick by the quarter machines). Also there are a bunch of little museums like the Ripley's believe it or not museum. We didn't see any are museums or anything...it was mosty things like Ripleys. There are a bunch of bars. Niagara Falls is VERY touristy (at least that was my opinion). The falls were not as impressive as we thought they would have been. Actually the first time that the hubby and I went we weren't sure if we were actually looking at "Niagara Falls." In my humble opinion, I would visit Montreal for a romantic getaway rather than Niagara Falls. Montreal is a bit more quaint with nice cobblestone streets. Visit Niagara Falls for your bachelor party. Oh, we stayed at the Sheraton Hotel overlooking Niagara Falls...they had VERY comfortable beds. We got a great rate on hotfares.com. As with most hotels in Niagara Falls you'll pay extra for parking, but if you're not renting a car that won't be a problem. Taxis are fairly easy to come by. You need to fly to buffalo and rent a car to go to Niagra. definetly stay on the Canadian side. Oakes Hotel. It is a nice hotel closest to the Horseshoe Falls. It is located in the heart of the Niagara Falls tourist area, and is right next door to the brand new Fallsview Casino and Resort. Apart from viewing the Falls, you can go some shopping as well. I would reccomend flying to Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Then, take a short taxi ride to Niagara-On-The-Lake! |
