Question about canada specifically niagara falls?

I've been hearing that starting in january of 2008 That youwill have to have a passport to enter canada does anyone know if thats true because i wanted to take my honeymoon in march to niagara falls but if we have to have passports then we won't be able to go to canada

You have recieved a LOT of MISINFORMATION. Botsibi is the only one who got the facts right. The FACTS are that you do need passports to FLY to and from Canada NOW. You do not need passports to travel to and from Canada by LAND until after SUMMER 2008. See website below and read the top half of the page carefully for the CURRENT info. If you are planning to FLY to Canada you will need passports...but you have PLENTY of time to get them. It is currently taking 6 to 8 weeks to get a passport...so there is no reason you cannot get passports in time ...IF you plan to FLY. If you are going to enter Canada by LAND, you just need your certified birth certificate and a picture I.D. See 2nd website for all passport application info if you decide to get passports.

one side of niagra falls is in canada the other side is in new york

yes that is true u need a passport to get to canada so save money for the trip and passport for u will need it

yes, u can,t enjoy your honnymoon in niagra, canada,. b'coz u need passport as well as visa.

As it stands right now, you will need a passport to return to the U.S. starting January 2008. Canada Border Services Agency is not enforcing the passport issue because the Canadian Crown is not on board with the U.S. as far as the new passport requirements.

P.S.: If your honeymoon is in March, you can apply for a passport now and have it well before your honeymoon, and you won't have to pay extra for expedited service either. Check out the U.S. State Department website to find out what forms you need to fill out, where you can go to apply, where you can get photos taken, and how much it'll cost.

yes you need passport. and its too late now. takes couple of months, i mean if its late jan. then maybe they give u like a reciept or something. but theres always the new york side. wich isn't as pretty as the canada side..but theres a cliff where the edge is just water...and a bank on the other side

its a good thing that you'll need a passport. Whether your being cheap or you're illegal....get with the program. Everybody wants to be safe

yes, sort of... you'll need passports to return to the US. It's a US regulation; Canadian offiicials aren't imposing the regs, it's the US gov't.

Given the application backlogue, you might not be able to get your passports by then.

You can settle for the NY side (there's still stuff to do, but the Caandian side is better), postpone until you get passports, or (I hate to say it) choose a different destination, one within the US.

I've been hearing that for the last couple of years but so far this seems to not be true. I believe it's something that may happen eventually but as of now and more than likely in Jan. you should be fine with just your birth certificate and drivers liscence or other photo ID. Brr! Dress warm. You're going to freeze your butt off ;)

Niagra Falls????

Slowly I turn .... step by step .. inch by inch

Apply for your passports and delay the honeymoon to a warmer time of year. Niagara is too good to visit in winter.

If you are a citizen of Canada, US, or Mexico and traveling by air (after 01 January 2007), you need a passport to enter any of the three countries.

If you are a citizen of Canada, US, or Mexico and traveling by land or sea - until 31 MAy 2008, you can enter the US with proof of citizenship (which may be passport, birth certificate, and/or naturalization papers) AND photo ID (which may be passport, US or Canada driver's licence, or military ID). However, AFTER 01 June you will need a passport to enter the US.

But you WILL require a passport by 01 January 2008 to enter Canada or Mexico ... since they don't have the issues the US does with coping with the backlog of passport requests.

If you are a citizen of any other country (including if you are a permanent resident of Canada, US, or Mexico) - you need a passport to travel by any means, as well as proof of residency (i.e. green card) to return to your country of residence. You may ALSO require a temporary visa, depending on the nation issuing your passport.

The requirement is not imposed by Canada but rather by Homeland Security in the US.You will need the passport to re-enter the USA. It also depends of how you travel. If you travel by air you now need a passport but if you travel by land (car, walk, etc) you do not yet need a passport but do need photo identity and a birth certificate but this is due to change at a time to be decided by US authorities.

Well said, Charlie. It seems a lot of people want to throw in their two cents when they don't seem to have a clue.

No passport required for driving. Flying - yes. At worst case, you could always fly into an airport in NY state, rent a car, and drive to the Falls. There's nothing like seeing it from the Canadian side.

Charlie has most of right, in the last few days the U.S. State Department rejected the time extension on land travel restrictions. U.S. Customs WILL require passports and proof of citizenship for all entering U.S. by land / sea / or air by January 30, 2008. Only Canadians can use drivers license or Native Status card PLUS Birth Certificate, or Passport (until the new secured Drivers License card is in circulation) to enter by land. The requirements seem to change daily, and with the new threat of war in Iran, it is just best to bring every piece of ID that you can, especially if traveling with kids.

Charlie has it right!

You should still have plenty of time to get a passport if the wedding is not until March. I always take mine going to the US even though I don;t need it yet.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.
